What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is the cosmic principle of harmony. In English it is referred to as Humanness. It is humanism, which is the belief in the foremost priority of human being, which would allow people of the world to develop their own personalities. It is that divine order of creation, of society, and of nature. It is that proper behaviour towards others and towards nature. The value, dignity, safety, welfare, health, beauty, love and development of the human being, and respect for the human being, are to come first and should be promoted to first rank before all other considerations.

The saying: umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu or I am because you are ,You are because I am, aims at emphasising the very fact that every person is a social being who can realise his/her being and existence in the company of, and in interaction with, other human beings. In other words, a person gets actualised in interaction with other people.
